The 'Teacher Draft' program would require university graduates from all disciplines, who finish in the top 5% of their cohort, to be employed and teach at a primary or secondary school in a low socio economic area in the country they went to university in, for at least 2 years after graduation. (In all other respects, this functions similarly to regular employment.)

There is a technology that accurately determines the profession and place of work of a person that fit them best according to the analysis of their talents and abilities.

Religion ensured that the working classes were deluded by the false hope of religion, and thereby served the interests of the ruling classes. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. At the same time, because an opiate is always double-edged, it helped the masses deal with their daily alienation. Religion could then be used as a basis for protest by the working classes against their poor economic conditions, by offering them a glimpse of utopia.

Beyonce is, arguably, the biggest music icon today. Having 32 Grammys to her name, she's the most decorated artist by the Grammys ever. Her last two albums, Lemonade and Renaissance, have been powerful explorations of the Black experience, talking about racial violence, police brutality, and black joy and suffering in the heavily racialized context of America. Importantly, these albums had a distinct Black aesthetic to them: for example, by using genres such as House music, reggaw, R&B, hip hop and soul. Both of these albums, despite being heavily acclaimed failed to win any of the Big 4 Grammys in the General awards category. Her latest album Cowboy Carter is Beyonce's first foray into country music.

In her release statement, Beyonce explained how country is a genre where Black artists have never felt welcomed. She writes, “I feel honored to be the first Black woman with the number one single on the Hot Country Songs chart. That would not have happened without the outpouring of support from each and every one of you. My hope is that years from now, the mention of an artist’s race, as it relates to releasing genres of music, will be irrelevant.

However, Cowboy Carter has also drew sharp criticism from critics who've previously been heavily laudatory of Beyonce's work. Their criticism anchors around ideas about how the album romanticizes a genre which is built on the legacy of slavery and plantation, given its specific context as revolving around the American South, and also its use by the southern confederate states in the civil war. Dismissing the aesthetic of the album as a white fantasy, critics have called it a poor attempt to pander to the Grammy voting academy to finally win a Big 4 Grammy.

Asian parenting is often portrayed as a highly involved method, where the parents directly step in their children's lives to prepare them for the future (for example, asking their children to be doctors and engineers). In Western parenting, parents emphasize the importance of individuality and let children express their opinions openly (for example, find their own career choose their desired major, etc.)

Free range parenting is the concept of raising children with a passion to encourage them to be independent with limited parental supervision according to the child's developmental age.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) stands as a permanent international tribunal tasked with prosecuting individuals for the most egregious crimes of international concern, including genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression. Established by the Rome Statute in 1998 and commencing operations in 2002, the ICC represents a significant step in the global pursuit of justice for victims of grave atrocities.

Joining the ICC would demonstrate the United States' unwavering commitment to upholding international law and human rights. By becoming a member, the U.S. could play a crucial role in influencing the court's proceedings positively, ensuring fair treatment for all parties involved, and enhancing global justice efforts. Furthermore, U.S. membership in the ICC could strengthen partnerships in the fight against impunity and reinforce the rule of law on the international stage. It would provide an avenue for the U.S. to actively engage in international justice initiatives and collaborate with other nations in holding perpetrators of heinous crimes accountable.

Despite its pivotal role, the United States has not ratified the Rome Statute, thus refraining from becoming a member of the ICC. Several factors contribute to this decision, including concerns over potential political bias within the court, perceived threats to national sovereignty, and the fear of politically motivated prosecutions targeting U.S. citizens or officials. As a result, the absence of U.S. participation in the ICC limits its effectiveness and global reach, undermining the court's universality and weakening its ability to comprehensively address impunity for international crimes.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) played significant roles in the overthrow of Sudan's longtime dictator, Omar al-Bashir. In April 2019, mass protests erupted across Sudan, fueled by economic grievances, demands for political reform, and dissatisfaction with al-Bashir's autocratic rule. Amidst these protests, the SAF, along with civilian demonstrators, exerted pressure on al-Bashir's regime, eventually leading to his ouster in April 2019.

Following al-Bashir's removal, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, leader of the SAF, assumed control of Sudan's transitional government as the head of the Sovereignty Council. The RSF, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), also played a crucial role in the transition. Hemedti, who was a key figure in the RSF and a member of the Sovereignty Council, supported al-Burhan's leadership.

The SAF and RSF collaborated during this period to maintain control and facilitate the transition to civilian rule. However, tensions between the military and civilian factions emerged over the pace and extent of reforms, particularly regarding the integration of the RSF into the national army and the transition to civilian governance. he RSF, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), rebelled against this integration, sparking violent clashes. The struggle for power and influence, coupled with historical grievances and competition for resources, exacerbated by political instability, ultimately led to the outbreak of the civil war.

Sudan's army chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, called on the United Nations to designate the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a terrorist group during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. Burhan accused the RSF of bringing in thousands of mercenaries to fight alongside them during the ongoing conflict, warning of serious regional consequences. He also suggested readiness for negotiations based on national dialogue.

In April, 1939, Franco formally initiated his dictatorship in Spain. It lasted until his death, in 1975. More than four hundred thousand Spaniards spent time in concentration camps between 1939 and 1947. And over the next three decades, Spaniards continued to be persecuted for political reasons; thousands were executed by firing squad and garrotte. Half a million fled the country. 

Several hundreds of Spaniards were shot point-blank in open roads and streets across Spain, which then also became their gravesites. For example, one of Spain’s most influential poets, Federico García Lorca, was shot with three other people and all four of them were buried there together, secretly and hastily. Without plaques identifying it, there was no sign that anything dramatic or historic had ever occurred here.

In the event of Franco's death, Spain began its tentative restoration to democracy. In 1977, Spain’s parliament passed an amnesty law that sealed the past in what became known as the pacto de olvido, or pact of oblivion. That’s how things stood until a decade ago, when “historical memory” groups, formed by the descendants of murdered Republicans, Communists, and anarchists, began to dig up some of their bodies.

In 2007 Spain’s parliament approved a Law of Historical Memory, which among other things, required the state to support the exhumation of thousands of mass graves.

There has been divergence of opinion in the descendants of the people buried in these graves: while some want their family members’ remains to be exhumed and restored to proper burial sites, others don't want to disturb their heads’ remains.

“But why,” I insisted, “leave him in the ditch where his killers dumped him?”

“What ditch?” Laura retorted. “It’s a sacred place. They’re all in good company there.”
